Transition Planning for Military Families:

At our school, we understand that military families often face unique transition challenges. That's why we offer comprehensive transition planning tailored to the needs of military children and their families. Our school counselors play a crucial role in supporting military students. The counselors regularly check in on students to provide guidance and emotional support, helping them navigate the ups and downs of military life. Additionally, we meet as a team to provide military families with essential information, resources, and a welcoming environment on our campus.

Our dedicated Military Point of Contact, Helen Nelson (USAF veteran) in the Guidance Department, is always available to assist military families. You can reach her at (850) 767-1117.

Academic Planning for Military Families:

We recognize the unique challenges military families may face due to frequent moves. Our staff includes military veterans who are sensitive to these challenges. Academic planning for military families is a priority for us. During the enrollment process, we offer one-on-one meetings with our team members and School Counselor to discuss academic schedules, ensuring a smooth transition for incoming military students. These meetings help tailor academic planning to military students' unique needs and goals, ensuring they receive the necessary support and resources to succeed in their educational journey.

Resources for Military Families:

We believe in providing military children with well-rounded educational opportunities. Our students have opportunities to participate in athletics at their zoned schools. These activities foster personal growth and help military students connect with peers who share similar interests, creating a sense of belonging and community.

Student-Led Transition Team (S2S Club):

Due to our very small campus, the enrollment does not always include a military student. However, we are in the process of building student leadership teams. These teams will be a support for the military students and families.

Support for Military ESE Children:

We understand that military children with exceptional needs require specific support. We offer personalized assistance for these students, including meetings with our ESE Resource teacher to review Individualized Education Plans (IEP) or 504 Plans. To address potential learning gaps caused by relocation, we plan and prepare differentiated instruction for all students, ensuring that each child receives a personalized and effective education that helps them thrive emotionally, socially and academically.

Military Recognition Events:

On the designated Purple Up Day, our school celebrates any student of an active duty parent or a student of a military veteran. Our school district supports this initiative by sending a representative to participate in honoring these families.

Mental Health Resources For Military Families:

We understand that our students' mental health and well-being, including military children, are paramount. Our School Counselor is available to support students. Additionally, students can access mental health services through parent requests, teacher referrals, and members of the Student Wellness Team. We are committed to ensuring that our students have the resources they need to thrive academically and emotionally.

Any Other Military/Related Details/Programs:

Our school has a major influx of military members from the surrounding bases, including the US Air Force, US Coast Guard and US Navy, who are active as volunteers in our school-based mentor program. The mentors are invited to participate in school-based events with their respective students.
